Simple and effective maintenance of your composite decking
Discover all our expert tips to preserve the beauty of your installations year after year, with a few simple steps that will ensure the longevity of your composite deck.
Maintaining your composite wood deck is essential and fortunately very easy to do! An annual clean in spring is a must – all you need is a scrub brush and warm soapy water to achieve optimal results.
For even more effective maintenance, we recommend using the products specially developed by Silvadec: Silvawash, Silvaction and Silvanet. These 3 solutions will help you keep your deck in perfect condition throughout the year.
A second clean in autumn is also recommended to limit build-up and make the following spring's maintenance easier. IMPORTANT: Don't forget to clean between the boards – debris accumulation there can cause moisture retention and compromise the ventilation of your deck.
For optimal maintenance of large surfaces, we recommend using a professional scrubber-dryer such as the Kärcher 40/10 C or an equivalent model without a high-pressure function. Several brush types are available for this machine, allowing you to adapt the cleaning to the nature and condition of your outdoor surface.
For maintaining edges and smaller decks, a compact model such as the Kärcher PCL4 or equivalent is perfectly suited. These devices work without high pressure but with specific brushes that, in a single pass, inject water (plain or soapy) while effectively scrubbing – removing stains, green deposits, bird droppings and reducing surface scratches. Usable all year round with no chemicals, they provide an environmentally friendly cleaning solution.
Maintenance guide by composite deck board type
Élégance and Émotion boards: tailored maintenance for each finish
Élégance and Émotion boards require regular maintenance that varies slightly depending on their finish. For optimal cleaning, choose the brush suited to your board type:
Smooth, structured Élégance and Émotion boards: use the classic brush (green) for basic cleaning in spring or routine maintenance.
Grooved Élégance boards: preferably use an orange brush with two bristle heights, particularly suited to grooves.
If you notice scratches on your smooth boards, it is possible to lightly sand the surface to remove them. After exposure to UV rays and weather, the difference in colour will fade naturally. Please note: this method is not suitable for structured boards, as sanding would destroy the wood-effect pattern on the surface.
Please note: Élégance and Émotion boards undergo a temporary tanning phenomenon during the first few weeks after installation. This natural phenomenon disappears after exposure to sun and weather, allowing the boards to return to a colour close to their original shade.
Nuances and Atmosphère boards: simple and effective maintenance
Nuances and Atmosphère boards benefit from straightforward maintenance that preserves their aesthetic qualities. For cleaning with a scrubber-dryer such as the Kärcher 40/10 C, opt for a medium-hard brush (red) specially suited to this range.
Unlike Élégance and Émotion boards, Nuances and Atmosphère boards are not compatible with disc brushes with abrasive fibres, which could damage their specific surface.
To treat scratches on Nuances and Atmosphère boards, we recommend using a brass wire brush, scrubbing vigorously in the direction of the boards. It is advisable to first test this method on a small, inconspicuous area to check the impact on the surface appearance.
Nuances and Atmosphère boards are particularly sensitive to mineral dust and limescale deposits. To remove them effectively, sprinkle baking soda-based washing powder on the boards, dampen the cleaning accessory with hot water, scrub, leave to act and rinse thoroughly.
For optimal maintenance, Silvaction is specifically recommended for treating moss and lichen problems on Nuances and Atmosphère boards.
Maintenance tips common to all board types
Whatever the range of your composite deck boards, certain maintenance rules apply across the board:
- Clean your deck at least once a year, ideally in spring
- Always use warm soapy water for optimal results
- Never use a pressure washer, as it will make the surface porous
- Strictly avoid solvents and any protection, reviving or renovation products
- Remember to clean between the boards to prevent moisture build-up
- A second wash in autumn is recommended to limit dirt accumulation
By following these board-specific maintenance tips, you will preserve the beauty and performance of your Silvadec composite deck for the long term.

🤔 Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting
Q: How often should I clean my deck? A: A thorough clean once a year is sufficient, ideally in spring. To maintain the appearance of your deck, regular sweeping and rinsing with clean water are recommended.
Q: Can I use bleach? A: This is not recommended. Instead, use our specific products such as SILVANET or SILVACTION, which are chlorine-free and non-corrosive, specially formulated for composite wood.
Q: My deck has significant scratches – how can I treat them? A: Minor scratches are part of the normal wear and tear of a deck. For deeper scratches, light sanding followed by cleaning with SILVANET can improve the appearance. For high-traffic areas, consider placing felt pads under furniture.
Q: Should I treat my deck before winter? A: A clean with SILVANET before winter is recommended to remove atmospheric pollution residue and plant deposits. Also make sure that water drains properly from your deck to avoid frost damage.
Q: Which Silvadec product should I choose depending on the type of problem? A: For grease stains, use SILVAWASH (clay, 200 g). For tough stains, pollution and mould, opt for SILVANET (1 L/10–20 m²). For green deposits and lichen, choose SILVACTION (5 L/20–25 m²).
Q: How do I treat grease stains and use SILVAWASH? A: Grease stains are not permanent and can be treated with SILVAWASH, based on 100% mineral clay. Apply the product dry directly onto the stain, leave it to act (the clay will absorb the grease), then sweep away. SILVAWASH is sold in a 200 g pot for occasional use.
Q: How do I remove tough stains and use SILVANET? A: SILVANET effectively removes difficult stains (black marks, grease, wine, halos) and mould. It is applied to a wet surface using a soft brush. Leave it to act for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly. It is available in a 1-litre bottle, covering 10 to 20 m² depending on the level of soiling.
Q: How do I treat green deposits and use SILVACTION? A: The composite wood cleaner SILVACTION is specially designed for green deposits and lichen. It is ready to use, requires no rinsing and is applied directly to the surface to be treated. This chlorine-free, non-corrosive product covers 20 to 25 m² with its 5-litre volume. For persistent mould, an additional treatment with SILVANET may be necessary.
