Filling the Gabion structure

Before filling, it is important to check that the posts are properly fastened, vertical, and the correct centre-to-centre distance apart. Then check that the gabion panel is correctly inserted and held in place.
Filling should be performed via the top of the panel.

We recommend choosing a 15-25 mm grade filling gravel.
To fill one panel, you will need 125 to 150 kg of gravel (mesh dimensions: 10x100 mm).

The gabion panel is supplied with a funnel. It comprises 4 plates to be assembled.

Slot the funnel fully into the groove in the panel grille before filling.

You will be able to fill the gabion panel by emptying the bags of gravel one by one into the funnel. Be sure to spread the gravel uniformly across the width of the panel when filling.
We advise against filling the panel in the middle only.
We strongly recommend using a step ladder for this step.

Important: it is completely normal for gravel to spill out of the grill mesh during filling. The smallest grade must be removed to enable each piece of gravel to find its place in the panel.
It is advisable to tamp down the gravel as far as possible (e.g. by tapping with a broom) as you fill the panel.
We recommend spreading tarpaulins at the foot of the panel to collect the excess gravel that spills out through the mesh.
